Fabulous Vintage Makeover

Think about vintage fashion. It’s glamorous, it’s girly, it’s simply… fabulous. The carefully-styled hair, the flawless complexions, the gorgeous red lips, the fussy dresses. In the 1940s and 50s, fashion was a celebration. We had just come out of the depression. We were highly influenced by Parisian style. We were darn well ready to indulge!

Alayne recently packed our eye shadows, lipsticks and curling irons and assisted one of our clients in traveling back to that grand era for the day.

Look it up and you’ll see, vintagethirty.com showcases Melissa’s passion for vintage fashion and the simple way of life cultivated during that era.

Melissa sat in our chair here at Make Me Fabulous as a bride about a year ago. When she dreamed up the idea of promoting her new blog with a photo shoot, she was confident Alayne could help with her vintage transformation.

And she did. We pulled out a few foundations, hot red lipstick and lush eyelashes and went to work on her makeover. To make Melissa’s skin super-flawless yet still fresh, Alayne layered two foundations, FACE atelier and Stila’s Stay All Day foundation. FACE atelier foundation smooths away complexion flaws and evens out the skin, leaving a dewy finish without a greasy feel. Stila’s Stay All Day Foundation is an oil-free, high definition, high performance foundation that is touted to last up to sixteen hours and delivers a flawless finish.cropped-VintageThirtySlider

To achieve those stunning, red red lips, we used Stila’s Stay all Day Liquid Lipstick in Fiery and NO gloss. We love this liquid color because it can be counted on to literally last all day. As we’ve all experienced, with such a bright red color that’s doubly important to avoid yucky smearing and smudging.

The results were sublime. The camera loved it. Melissa loved it, telling us “Wow! I had an idea of what I wanted it to look like and you nailed it!” She had shown us a picture to give us the feel she was going for, and loved the way we pinned back her hair, made up her face and gave her the look she had in mind.

It really is amazing how makeup transforms a face.

As a mom, Melissa’s look is natural and care-free.
